What customers ask before signing the contract.
Do I need new equipment to add automation?
Not always. Most modern Pentair and Jandy equipment is automation-ready out of the box. Older non-VS pumps and analog heaters may need a small retrofit kit, which we quote up front.
What does it actually do for me?
Three things: drops your electric bill (the system runs equipment only when needed), prevents bad chemistry from going unnoticed (sensors text you), and lets you run a perfect spa night without walking outside.
Will it work if Wi-Fi is weak at the pad?
We test signal at the equipment pad before quoting. If it is below threshold, we add a hardwired bridge or mesh node, included in the quote, never a surprise charge later.
Can automation control a salt system and a heater at the same time?
Yes, that is the typical setup. IntelliCenter and AquaLink both handle salt output, heater temperature, pump speed, and lighting from one controller, so you are not juggling separate apps for each component.
What happens if the automation system loses power or Wi-Fi?
The equipment keeps running on its last programmed schedule. You lose remote control and notifications until connectivity returns, but the pool does not stop filtering or fall out of chemistry just because the app is offline.
Is Pentair or Jandy automation better?
Both are reliable authorized platforms. The real driver is what is already on your equipment pad: staying in one ecosystem avoids cross-brand compatibility issues, so we typically recommend automation that matches your existing pump and heater brand.
Can I add automation in phases instead of all at once?
Yes. A common path is installing the core controller and pump control first, then adding chemistry monitoring, lighting, or water features later as budget allows. We design the initial install so later phases plug in without redoing existing wiring.
Does automation help catch problems before they become expensive?
Yes, this is one of the most underrated benefits. Pressure, flow, and chemistry sensors can alert you to a clogged filter, a failing pump, or a chemistry swing days before it would otherwise be noticed, often the difference between a $150 fix and a $1,500 one.
How long does the training session take?
About 30 to 45 minutes on-site, covering the app, schedule presets, and manual overrides. We leave you with quick-reference notes and are a phone call away if something is not intuitive once you are using it solo.
